Summer Checklist Item #1: Laser Hair Removal
- Posted on: Mar 9 2012
Have you ever tried to total up the amount of time and money you’ve spent in your life shaving? What about waxing? It sounds like a silly question, but if you were to stop and consider it, the numbers would probably be surprising.
Summer is fast approaching and it’s a great time to begin preparing for bathing suit season. At our office, we offer Laser Hair Removal for any area of your body and face-from legs and bikini area, to your underarms and back. Imagine enjoying your summer and not having to worry about shaving and waxing for the first time in your life!
We utilize the Cutera YAG laser system, which is safe for all skin types-even darker skin tones. You can read more about this state-of-the-art laser system here.
If you’ve ever considered going through Laser Hair Removal treatments, why not start now? On average, six to eight treatments are needed, depending on the patient, and they are generally scheduled four to six weeks apart. Now is the perfect time to begin the process.
Why are several treatments needed?
Our hair grows in three phases:
- anagen (the active stage-when hair is actively growing)
- catagen (the regressive stage-when growth slows down and the root begins to die)
- telogen (the resting stage-when growth has completely stopped and the hair is fully developed)
For effective laser hair removal, the laser must strike the hair in the anagen phase. Because growth cycles can last from four to 6 weeks, there is only a small percentage of time that the hair is in the ideal state of growth.
This treatment isn’t only for women-I see many men, as well, for everything from back hair issues to their neck and beard. Dr. Oz has a cute video addressing the male perspective of laser hair removal: you can view it here
