Are You Toxic? Three Benefits of Chelation Therapy

Can you believe that humans are exposed to 2.5 billion pounds of toxic chemicals each year?  It might sound like something only tied to rare circumstances of accidental poisoning, but heavy metal toxins are more common than you think. If you have mercury fillings in your teeth (or amalgam fillings), have been vaccinated to prevent various diseases, eat farm-raised fish regularly, consume foods that are grown in certain foreign countries (like China) that aren’t certified organic, or are healing from radiation and chemotherapy treatments, you’re likely experiencing heavy metal toxicity right now to some degree.

Toxic metals – such as lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium and aluminum are some of the most damaging of toxic compounds. Heavy metals can cause DNA damage, disrupt hormones, impair the immune system, and damage neurological function, all of which increases the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. The bottom line is that we were never meant to be exposed to these levels of toxins, and as long as we have a toxic overload, our bodies cannot function optimally.

Are you unsure of the amount of heavy metals stored in their body? If you suspect you may have heavy metal toxicity, a simple lab test can be done to confirm the presence of excess heavy metals in the body. Let’s take a look at some of the common signs of heavy metal toxicity:

  • Weight Gain
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness / Lightheadedness
  • Migraines
  • Digestive Distress
  • Aching Joints & Muscles
  • Depression / Anxiety
  • Menstrual Irregularities
  • Infertility
  • Impaired Blood Sugar Regulation
  • Numbness, Tingling of Extremities
  • Insomnia

What do I do to remove these toxins?

Heavy metals don’t easily leave the body unless steps are taken to remove them. Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) therapy is a series of intravenous infusion treatments used to remove heavy metals (including mercury and lead) from the blood. It involves intravenous injections of a chelating agent, EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid), an amino acid. EDTA “chelates” (naturally seeks out and binds) to heavy metals and minerals in the blood so that they can be excreted in the urine. EDTA not only binds heavy metals, it also “chelates” (naturally seeks out and binds) calcium, one of the components of atherosclerotic plaque that causes heart disease and stroke.

Three Benefits of Chelation Therapy:

•             Improves Cardiovascular System

Beyond its effects on heavy metals, chelation may also benefit the cardiovascular system. Chelation has frequently been compared to a “Roto-Rooter” in the cardiovascular system, because it removes plaque and returns the arterial system to a smooth, healthy, pre-atherosclerotic state.

•             Can Help Fight Cognitive Disorders

There’s evidence that chelation therapy can successfully treat cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. While the exact mechanisms in which EDTA helps resolve these problems isn’t yet clear or proven in studies, there seems to be a tie between heavy metal poisoning (or toxicity), including high levels of lead or mercury in the blood, and medical disorders that affect the brain, memory and learning. Long-term heavy metal exposure can lead to physical, muscular and neurological degenerative changes in the brain that set the stage for not only Alzheimer’s disease, but also dementia, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.

•             Lowers Pain and Swelling

Since chelation therapy targets inflammation, the root of most diseases, including arthritis and many autoimmune disorders, many people report less pain from inflamed muscles, joints and bones when using EDTA. Although this theory hasn’t yet been proven in controlled scientific studies, chelation therapy might work by helping to reduce the effects of oxygen ions (also called oxidative stress) that can damage blood vessels and tissue. When inflammation causes the walls of vessels to become clogged, circulation decreases and pain grows. Chelation therapy may offer an alternative to ongoing medication treatments for chronic pain.

In addition to Chelation Therapy, we highly recommend a routine detoxification program to ensure you are constantly working towards removing all forms of toxins from your body. Dr. Shel’s 14-Day Detox is a nutritional detoxification program that is safe, effective and easy to follow. We recommend doing the 14-Day Detox at least once a quarter, if not more frequently, to ensure you are supporting your body’s natural detoxification system.

This step-by-step detox program gives your body the fresh new start it deserves and helps to detox your body, reset your metabolism and feel more refreshed than ever before.
