How Dr. Shel is using stem cell therapy

You may have heard of stem cells numerous times in your life, but did you know stem cell therapy is used to treat and prevent neurodegenerative conditions, diabetes and heart disease? Stem cell therapy has been around since the late 1960s, but with the rise of science and technology, stem cell therapy has become world-renowned and widely used for suffering patients.
What are stem cells?
Stem cells are the body’s raw materials. Cells with specialized functions are generated from stem cells. Under the right conditions in the body, stem cells divide to form more cells, called daughter cells. These daughter cells either become new stem cells (this process is called self-renewal) or become specialized cells (this process is called differentiation). These specialized cells have more specific functions, such as brain cells, blood cells or bone cells.
What is stem cell therapy?
When most people think about stem cells treating disease, they think of a stem cell transplant. Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, induces the repair response of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives. Researchers grow stem cells in a lab where they are manipulated to specialize into specific types of cells, which can then be implanted into a person. It is the next chapter in organ transplantation, considering donor organs are limited in supply.
For example, if someone has heart disease, the cells could be injected into the heart muscle. The healthy transplanted heart muscle cells could then contribute to repairing defective heart muscle.
Research is an important part of stem cell therapy. Studying how stem cells develop into heart muscle cells could provide clues about how doctors could induce heart muscle to repair itself after a heart attack. The cells could be used to study disease, identify new drugs or screen medications for toxic side effects. Any of these would have a significant impact on human health.
How is Dr. Shel using stem cell therapy?
Dr. Shel believes that many people are suffering with degenerative conditions and are not treating the root cause of the problem. Using state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Shel Wellness & Aesthetic Center offers FDA-approved stem cell therapy via two methods:
- Stem cell infusion (receiving prepared stem cells through an IV drip)
- Stem cell therapy via injection
Using a special device, patients will receive human stem cell product comprised of donated human cord blood, cord tissue and/or placental tissue that has been processed to remove excess plasma, red blood cells, vascular material and tissue solids. This leaves stem cells and other cellular components, which are then concentrated and banked with a validated process.
We take patient safety very seriously, and we advise that anyone who gets the stem cell therapy via injection should maintain the same activity level as your pre-injection activity level. Give the cells three weeks to aid in repair prior to starting an exercise regimen.
Dr. Shel is a firm believer in the power of regenerative medicine and believes that procedures such as stem cell therapy can help restore your body back to normal function.
