The Healing Power of Light (UV Light Therapy)
- Posted on: Dec 4 2015
UV light is used in hospitals, food preparation, & water treatments because of its ability to eliminate germs. UV Light Therapy is the process of administering UV light to the blood to help the body’s immune system fight off bacteria & viruses. UV Light therapy was actually introduced back in the 1890’s & was used extensively in the 1940’s & 50’s for various bacterial diseases & viral infections prior to the advent of antibiotics. UV Light Therapy can be an effective treatment for Lyme Disease, Chronic & Adrenal Fatigue, Yeast Overgrowth, Epstein Barr Virus, Acute Infections, Cancer, Hepatitis, Shingles, Arthritis, & much more.
The Next Generation of UV Light Therapy
Until recently, the standard approach for administering UV light to the blood was by draining about a pint of blood, exposing it to a lethal dose of UV light through a device, & then delivering the treated blood back into the body. This process is called UBI (Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation).
Now, with the latest in technology we are able to deliver a therapeutic, non-lethal dose of UV light directly into the bloodstream without draining a percent of the patients blood out. A special adapter is attached to a standard IV catheter that allows the administration of both saline fluid & therapeutic UV light through a fiber optic cable. Treatments are 60 minutes in length & are divided into two thirty-minute phases. Each phase administers a specific combination of light wavelengths to maximize the desired clinical effect.
The 3 Wavelengths Administered During the Treatment:
- UV-A (365nm) eradicates foreign pathogens (bacteria, virus, fungi).
- UV-Red (635nm) increases ATP energy production of cells, helps with the reduction of inflammation, improves white blood cell activity and accelerates cell repair.
- UV-Green (535nm) improves flexibility of red blood cells thus increasing delivery of oxygen to all the cells of the body and brain and the reduction of carbon dioxide which shifts the body towards alkalinity. .
Aside from having to extract blood from the patient, another downside to the traditional UBI approach is what’s called the Herxheimer reaction. The Herxheimer reaction is caused from the toxins that are released when pathogens are being killed off, and the body does not eliminate the toxins quickly enough. This is common because the intensity of the UV-A light used in UBI is very intense.
The Herxheimer reactions are much less common with the new UV Light treatment. There are 3 reasons for this.
Firstly, since we are administering a sub-lethal dose of UV light thru-out all the blood versus a lethal dose to a small portion of blood, there is a more gradual and even treatment. This lower intensity will kill fewer pathogens but will damage them enough at the cellular level to prevent them from replicating. Secondly, the UV-Red wavelength helps to reduce inflammation and strengthen the immune system. Lastly, The UV-Green wavelength increases oxygen delivery to all the cells of the body and brain.
The Primary Benefits of UV Light Therapy:
- Destroys yeast, fungal, viral & bacterial growth
- Enhances the immune system
- Decreases Inflammation
- Aids in detoxification
- Increases oxygen absorption into body tissues
- Increases circulation
This treatment is greatly needed to combat the super-strains of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics that the over-use of antibiotics has produced. Unlike antibiotic use, which can cause severe damage to your gut health, there are no side effects with UV Light Therapy.
