Toxins & Your Hormones
- Posted on: Feb 22 2018
Toxins, also known as poisons, are very detrimental to your overall health. From the way you look and feel, all the way down to the way your body functions at a cellular level, the overexposure of toxins is slowly taking over our bodies as we are exposed to more and more toxins every single minute of every single hour of every single day.
Toxins play a huge role in total hormonal balance, or an uneven distribution of hormones throughout the body. But how?
Our bodies were designed to filter out toxins and xenoestrogens (or hormone disruptors). However, with the daily overexposure to toxins, such as pollutants in the air we breathe, chemicals in our personal care products, and hormones and preservatives in the foods we eat, our bodies are constantly bombarded with more and more toxins, and therefore, these toxins and xenoestrogens are not able to be flushed from the body properly. Instead of being flushed out like they should be, they then recirculate throughout your bloodstream, making nearly every cell in your body toxic to some extent.
When toxins circulate in your bloodstream, you begin experiencing a myriad of symptoms, such as:
- Weight gain
- Brain fog
- Sleepless nights
- Mood swings
- Hair loss
- Dry skin
- Brittle nails
- Vaginal dryness
- Muscle aches
- Joint pain
- Low libido
…and so on.
What do these symptoms all have in common? They are all symptoms of hormonal imbalance or hormonal decline. From thyroid and adrenal hormones, to your sex hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, each of these symptoms is directly related to your hormones.
What this means to you is a reduced amount of toxins could mean a reduced chance of you experiencing any of the many symptoms I have listed above. When your liver, your body’s filtration system, isn’t bombarded with toxins, it is able to properly filter out excess hormones and the abundance of toxins, enabling you to reduce the toxic overload and experience a better balance of your hormones.
For tips on how to easily eliminate toxins from your everyday life, here are five great ways to reduce your exposure to toxins.
